This Spring Silicon Integrated System, the number three core-logic supplier in the world announced the family of their Xabre graphics processors. The family was pretty broad and originally consisted of four solutions, offering different performance. The lower end is Xabre 80, running at 200/200MHz for core and 64-bit DDR SDRAM memory. The fastest is Xabre 600, originally set to 300/300MHz for the GPU and 128-bit DDR SDRAM memory. There are also Xabre 200 and Xabre 400, two most popular solutions from this range of chips. Graphics cards based on the mentioned graphics processors except Xabre 600 appeared for sale in Summer and SiS promised to launch the 600 version in September.
From 300/300MHz core-clocks for the chip and memory the frequencies were decreased to 275/275MHz eventually, however, it did not boost the release time of the Xabre 600. SiS constantly postponed it till early October, then, till late October and now our sources indicated that the newcomer will not come until very late November or early December.
Well, SiS Xabre 600 will bring nothing new to the market, except a bit higher performance compared to SiS Xabre 400. However, the 25MHz speed increase appears to be a serious obstacle for SiS. Strange, isn’t it?
