If I am not mistaken, Micron has just set the worlds record in the density of DRAM memory chips. Even Samsung Electronics, the leading DRAM supplier, has not yet introduced 1Gbit memory chips. Unfortunately, the Boise, Idaho-based memory maker decided to remain tight-lipped about the timeframes of the actual products appearance on the market. The only thing they said is that initially, the 1Gb DDR SDRAM chips would be used in 4GB registered DIMM modules for servers.
At the moment only Hynix Semiconducor manufactures DRAM memory chips using even thinner 0.10 micron technology (see this news-story), but they only make 512Mb chips now and plan to start manufacturing the 1Gb devices next year.
