Pentium 4 "Migration" Plans Update. [04/29/2002 10:58 PM]

There appeared some additional info about Intel’s plans concerning the migration of the Pentium4 family to new manufacturing technologies. The first two items of the "migration program" (see this news story) remained unchanged, however, there has now appeared the third item revealing some preliminary schedule for the first Pentium 4 CPUs on 0.09micron Prescott core (see this news story):
  • By the end of Q2 there will be twice as many Pentium 4 processors on 0.13micron Northwood core sold than Willamette based ones (the situation was just the opposite in Q1’02).
  • By the end of Q3 Willamette core will no longer exist officially (of course, these processors will crop up from time to time within the framework of the discontinuance program, which will last about a year).
  • In Q3’03 we can expect Pentium 4 processors on the new 0.09micron Prescott core to crop up. By the end of Q3 the ratio between 0.09micron and 0.13micron Pentium 4 CPUs should make 1:2 and by the end of 2003 – 1:1.
