SiS showcased SiS648. [03/17/2002 08:16 PM]

As we have promised before, at the CeBIT show, SiS has showcased its new Pentium 4 SiS648 chipset. This is a very interesting product, which supports several new technologies at the same time. SiS648 works with 533/400 MHz bus processors, but the most important thing is that it supports DDR400 memory and has an AGP 8x bus. It should be noted that again SiS has run ahead: the necessary institutions haven’t approved AGP 8x and DDR400 yet. Nevertheless, the successful experience of SiS645 with DDR333 support and without JEDEC approve of DDR333, gives hope that AGP 8x and DDR400 will be really supported in SiS648, not only on paper.

Also, SiS648 comprises a new SiS963 South Bridge with support of ATA-133, USB 2.0, IEEE1394, ADSL and a faster MuTIOL bus for the North Bridge connection.

It is expected, that by the beginning of SiS648 serial production in the third quarter, DDR400 modules and AGP 8x graphic cards will be available in shops. At least, DDR400 modules are being shown by Samsung at the moment, and the first graphic chip with AGP 8x support is also shown at the SiS stand. This chip is a newcomer, called SiS330.
