VIA Company has reported about its new P4MA mainboard, compatible with Pentium 4 processors family. This mainboard is based on the integrated VIA P4M266 chipset with an integrated S3 ProSavage8 graphics-core.
The mainboard has MicroATX form-factor and it is positioned as a platform for system integrators and OEM. The specifications of the newcomer are as follows: Socket 478, AGP 4x, two DDR DIMM slots, three PCI-slots, AC’97 sound, ATA-133 support, integrated Realtek network controller. The mainboard supports Smart Card/Memory Stick and has a voice diagnostic system.
However, VIA hasn’t managed to get a license for Pentium 4 bus use, that’s why the mainboard is unlikely to become very popular. Today the most demanded integrated solutions are SiS650 based products, and within 1-2 months Intel integrated chips i845G and i845GL are expected. They will make a good competition to other chipsets.
