Our comments:
- The most important conclusion that we make looking at this table is that the shipments of the new generation logic set supporting Pentium 4 with 533 MHz system bus will start on April, 1. Therefore, by the middle of May, when those processors would be officially announced, corresponding mainboards will be widely available.
- Here are a few facts based on easy calculations. The 533 MHz system bus support is priced $2 by Intel (the difference in price of i850 and i850E which are different only in supported system bus frequency). Intel asks some more $2 for USB 2.0 support (the difference in price of i845 and i845E minus $2 "for the 533 MHz system bus"). The graphics core of i845G is priced higher –$5 (the difference between prices of i845E and i845G).
- It’s curious to compare the prices of i845GL and i845 (the first has integrated graphics, the latter – AGP 4x support): it turns out that the external AGP 4x support costs $4 more than embedded graphics core. Though, this time the low price of i845GL is caused by marketing reasons: i845GL will be oriented by Intel to cheap systems based on Celeron (Willamette-128).
- The price of i850E will at first be higher than that of DDR-enabled logic sets, though by the end of July the situation is going to reverse. Evidently, now Intel wants to get rid of its stocks of i850/i850E.
