Intel has made another long-awaited announcement. This time this is mobile Pentium 4 version aka Pentium 4-M. In fact, all the info about these processors became available quite a while ago, so we’ll only stress the main issues.

Pentium 4-M processors are based on 0.13-micron Northwood core (512KB L2 cache), they support Enhanced Speedstep, Deep Sleep and Deeper Sleep technologies. The CPUs have Micro-Flip Chip Pin Grid Array package (uFCPGA). For starters, there have arrived two models (1.7GHz and 1.6GHz) correspondingly priced at $508 and $401 per item in over-1000-piece quantities. Both these models work at 1.3V Vcore in a standard (performance) mode and at 1.2V in a power-saving mode consuming “less then 2W on average” (official data). A bit later (most probably in April) Intel will launch younger models 1.4GHz and 1.5GHz), and by the end of the year the fastest Pentium4-M processor will work at 2GHz.

Parallel to the release of Pentium 4-M CPUs Intel will give birth to i845MP – a mobile version of desktop i845 with PC2100 DDR SDRAM and PC133 SDRAM support. Intel 845MP will be priced at $43 per item in over-1000-piece quantities. Some time later (most probably at the same time with 1.4 and 1.5GHz models, i.e. in April) Intel will release i845MZ without PC2100 DDR SDRAM support. The price is not reported yet.
