Well, February 25 is coming closer, and it means that very soon a new Intel Developer Forum will start (from February 25 to February 28, San-Francisco). At this event Intel is going to show its newest achievements and share some of the plans for the future. So, what are they going to tell the world?
  • The major topic of this IDF will most probably be the presentation of how the Moore’s law actually works. According to this law, the number of transistors in a chip should double every 18 months. Of course, we mean Itanium (McKinley) here wit its 221 million transistors onboard. However, the major details about this processor have been already reported by Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in San-Francisco in the beginning of February (see this news story), so you shouldn’t expect anything extraordinary here.
  • During the IDF Intel is also going to announce new Xeon CPUs on Prestonia core (with HyperThreading support), and Plumas chipset, which I have already told you about (see this news story).
  • Also Intel will disclose some details about its Pentium 4-M processor. This solution should be announced on March 4 (according to our unofficial sources).
  • The network sector will also be mentioned at the event. At the Forum Intel is expected to announce 10Gbit IXP network processor based on StrongARM core (Xscale microarchitecture).
Unfortunately, I don’t know yet if Intel is going to mention the new Yamhill technology (see this news story). Even if it is going to do it, I really doubt that the info will become public soon. However, who knows...
