Intel today announces Intel PRO/1000 CT Desktop Connection, its first ever chip for network solutions that utilise Intel's new Communications Streaming Architecture (CSA) bus that is present on Intel’s upcoming i865-series and i875P chipsets.

The new Intel PRO/1000 CT Desktop Connection is a 1Gbit/s Ethernet solution designed to work in tandem with Intel's soon-to-be-released Springdale and Canterwood chipsets to double the performance attainable on desktop PC GbE network connections.

CSA is a dedicated bus that connects to the memory controller hub on the chipsets, bypassing the PCI bus on the I/O controller hub, freeing its bandwidth for other I/O operations. The CSA connection provides bidirectional bandwidth of 2Gbit/s, twice that of the 32-bit PCI bus.

The Intel PRO/1000 CT Desktop Connection is priced at $29.95 and will be shipping in late March.
