ASUSTeK Computer, one of the world’s largest producers of mainboards and notebooks, is reported to target LCD displays market with product lineup that is to be unveiled shortly. The introduction will solidify ASUS’ positions as “one stop supplier” of PC components.
ASUSTeK’s family of LCDs will utilize TN panels boasting with low response time, but rather narrow view angle. Initially ASUS’ display family will include five 17” models: PM17I, PG17T, PG17D, PV17 and PD17, which will differ by specifications, digital or analogue interconnection and multimedia features, according to a report from PCInpact.com web-site.
The premier display from ASUS will be PM17I with 1280x1024 native resolution, 300 cd/m? luminosity, 500:1 contrast, 12ms response time, D-Sub and DVI-I interface and integrated speakers. Other monitors, such as PG17T, PG17D, PV17 and PD17, will have slightly less advanced panels with 250 cd/m? luminosity, 450:1 contrast and 16ms response time. It is reported that PG17T and PG17D will have 140° horizontal and 120° vertical view angle, while the PV17 and PD17 will have 140°/140° horizontal/vertical view angle.
It is not clear whether ASUS wanted to match its barebones with its LCD monitors, like Shuttle did earlier this year. Brief examination of ASUS’ TFT lineup revealed that there is no clear design baseline for such products.
Release dates, pricing and target markets for ASUS LCD displays remain unknown at press-time.
Representatives for ASUSTeK did not comment on the news-story.
