As is known, ALi continues its activities in the non-system chipset market. Today the company announced the launch of its new single-chip M5621 controller, which allowed connecting different IDE devices (up to ATA/66) to USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 interfaces. The data transfer rate provided by this chip is limited by the USB bandwidth. In case the device is connected to USB 2.0, the data transfer rate will not exceed 60MB/sec (480Mbit/sec), which is why the controller doesn’t support ATA/100 and ATA/133 interfaces.

The chip is designed in a 100-pin or 64-pin QFP package. It has already passed all the necessary certifications and should be produced in mass quantities this month already.
