As we have expected, after its mobile KN266 chipset (see this news story) VIA decided to introduce a desktop version of the integrated Socket A chipset for AMD processors supporting DDR SDRAM. We are talking about VIA ProSavageDDR KM266.
This chipset boasts absolutely the same specifications as its mobile brother does, with the exception of external AGP 4x support. It is manufactured by TSMC with 0.22micron technology and can be now ordered in mass quantities. KM266 is also announced to have a new VT8233A South Bridge with ATA/133 support, though this is hardly a surprise for you already. VIA didn’t disclose the cost of its new integrated baby, so that not to scare away those who might be still interested in purchasing it.
