Tom’s Hardware site reported about two "New Year" gifts from AOpen Company, in other words about two new mainboards announced during the New Year holiday time. They are:
- AX45. This mainboard is based on the popular SiS645 chipset. it is designed in ATX form-factor, supports Socket478 Pentium4 processors, features 3 DIMM slots for up to 3GB PC2700/PC2100/PC1600 DDR SDRAM. Besides, there are 6 PCI slots, an AGP 4x slot, a CNR slot, 6 USB ports, ATA/100 support due to SiS691 South bridge and AC’97 sound.
- AX4T II. This mainboard is considerably less interesting than the previous one, because it is based on the expensive i850 chipset. It is also designed in ATX form-factor to support Socket478 Pentium 4 processors. It features 4 RIMM slots for up to 2GB PC800 RDRAM. It has 6 PCI slots, an AGP 4x slot and a CNR slot, supports ATA/100 due to ICH2, boasts 4 USB ports and AC’97 sound.
The recommended retail prices are pretty typical making $99 for AX45 and $159 – for AX4T II, as they illustrate beautifully the dependence on the chipset price following the approximate 4:1 ratio.
