Well, you are probably lacking some mainboard announcements today, so we decided to make you happy, finally :-) Elitegroup, the current mainboard supplies leader announced a new P4VMM mainboard based on VIA P4M266 chipset. This is a MicroATX solution supporting Socket478 Pentium 4 CPUs, featuring 2 DIMM slots for up to 2GB Buffered or up to 1GB Unbuffered PC1600/PC2100 DDR SDRAM. It also has 3 PCI slots, an AGP 4x slot, a CNR slot, an integrated S3 Savage4 graphics core, V-Link Bus between the chipset bridges. The board supports ATA/100 due to VT8233 South Bridge and boasts an integrated Realtek 8100/B 10/100 Ethernet controller and AC’97 sound.
We believe that the boards on this chipset will hardly be able to become very popular, because it will be hard for them to compete with SiS650 not only in terms of price but also in terms of performance. Especially, since P4M266 is also in disgrace together with its discrete P4X266 and P4X266A brothers. So, we dare conclude that P4M266 will not stay long with us.
