Intel officially announced that its Celeron processors based on the 0.13micron Tualatin/256 core (to be more precise, just one model with 1.2GHz frequency) will support higher Vcore. Vcore of this CPU will be increased from 1.475V to 1.5V.
As is known, Intel is going to start shipping its potentially popular Celeron (Tualatin/256) working at 1GHz and 1.1GHz in January (see this news story), which should result into doubling (at least) of the demand for these CPUs. That is why no wonder that Intel is taking some measures aimed at avoiding the possible processor shortages.
The first processor samples with higher Vcore will be sent out to Intel’s partners on January 8, 2002. the first tests of the new CPUs should be completed by January 28, and on February 4 they should start shipping in mass quantities.
