The virtual worlds get more and more realistic. And the more lifelike are these worlds on the PC monitors, the deeper we penetrate into them. This realism allows us to train not only our imagination but also our reaction. In other words, we get the chance to feel with our own skin all the coolness of extremes and emergency situations at the same time remaining in a comfortable armchair. It is especially valuable for those guys, whose experience (read: mistakes) can cause some real risks.
Evans & Sutherland Company has been working on training and visualization systems for over 30 years already. The last decade was devoted to systems based on PC compatible sets and corresponding software. E&S creates most lifelike simulators for training of pilots for supersonic airplanes and helicopters, of drivers for surface and water carriers. E&S Company introduced its new partner, which graphics processor will be integrated into their simFUSION family of high-performance multi-GP systems. This partner is ATI Technologies and this graphics processor – RADEON 8500.
As to E&S executive director James R. Oyler, the latest ATI chip is the today’s fastest solution of all the available in the market, which supports all the features and technologies for realistic image creation. What can we say here? The deal is made not for one-month period, and not even for one-year period. No doubt, that E&S have made a lot of research and analysis before making this decision about ATI RADEON 8500. They have definitely considered the solutions from ATI’s competitors as well. And now the choice is made. The first simFUSION system built on ATI RADEON 8500 will be announced this week already at I/ITSEC 2001 in Orlando (Florida).
