Well, it looks as if SiS managed to nearly completely restore its reputation among the mainboard manufacturers having launched a really successful SiS645 core logic. We have already told you in our numerous news stories that almost all the leading mainboard manufacturers have already started shipping their SiS645 based products or are going to start shipping them in the near future. In the meanwhile, SiS was about to launch the next product, SiS745 chipset for Socket A processors supporting DDR333 memory and featuring an integrated IEEE 1394 controller. And we should say that the manufacturers are not even a little bit less enthusiastic about it. SiS has just started shipping the first samples of the new chipset while the mainboard manufacturers already prepared their demo boards on it. As a result, even though SiS745 is to be announced officially only next year, the mainboards built on it could be seen at COMDEX Fall 2001 already.
The visitors could see SiS745 based mainboards by ECS and ABIT. We have already told you about ECS K7S5A (see this news story) that is why now we will dwell on the solution from ABIT.
The board is called ABIT KS7 and features 3 DIMM slots for PC2100/PC2700 DDR SDRAM, an AGP 4x slot, 6 PCI slots, AC’97 sound, 6 USB ports and an IEEE 1394 controller.
The mass shipments are scheduled for Q2’02.
