At the current WinHEC 2001 conference VIA demonstrated a working sample of its first integrated processor intended for Low-End Information PCs, Matthew. It is noteworthy that nowadays it’s the only project nearing its final stage. Timna, a similar product by Intel, is canceled and an integrated SiS550 is far from being perfect.
The characteristics of VIA Matthew are:
- Samuel 2 C3 CPU Core (64KB L2 cache)
- Clock speed - 700MHz and higher
- S3 Savage MX Graphics Core Integrated
- Integrated VIA Apollo Pro266 North Bridge
- PC133 SDRAM support
- 0.15 Micron technology
- Die size ~100sq mm
- 5.11W typical heat dissipation
- PBGA 551 package
