Intel has launched new i815P core logic. This is a light version of i815EP featuring ICH South Bridge instead of ICH2. This way, i815P comprises 82815EP(MCH) and 82801AA(ICH) chips. Its only functional difference from i815EP is the absence ATA/100 support.
By the by, some manufacturers (for example, Gigabyte) have been making boards based on such chip combination for quite a while already.
Intel’s idea of i815P is to make the chipset slightly cheaper in order it could successfully compete with the ever-popular among mainboards manufacturers VIA Apollo Pro133A and VIA Apollo Pro133.
