Tyan announced a new dual-processor mainboard aimed at servers and workstations: Thunder HEsl S2567. We would like to point out right away that this mainboard is equipped with two FC-PGA/Socket370 units and represents a very extraordinary product due to ServerWorks ServerSet III HE-SL chipset. The major peculiarities of this chipset are: the support of two 64bit PCI buses, 500MHz 16bit IMB bus connecting the chipset components and boasting 1GB/s bandwidth, 128bit memory access. As for the memory, there is PC133 SDRAM, which allows getting the memory bus bandwidth close to that of PC2100 DDR SDRAM, i.e. 2.1GB/sec. Thunder HEsl uses these chipset features to the full extent.
Besides, the board features 4 DIMM slots supporting registered PC133 SDRAM with ECC installed in pairs, two 64bit 66MHz and four 64/32bit 33MHz PCI slots, AGP Pro 2x slot and an integrated 10/100BaseT Ethernet and dual-channel Ultra160 SCSI controllers.
Of course, this rich mainboard costs quite a lot: $700, which isn’t surprising, actually.
