Getting ready to launch new Pentium 4 processors with 1.7GHz clock frequency, which are due in the end of April – beginning of May, Intel made one more announcement. They said that they moved Pentium 4 Willamette to a new core stepping C-1 supporting higher frequencies. Although there weren’t any significant changed made to the core itself: the only modification compared to the previous B-2 stepping was the increased Vcore (from 1.7V to 1.75V), which should guarantee stable operation of the upcoming Pentium 4 processors at 1.7GHz frequency. The first shipments of the CPUs with the new core stepping should be arranged in March.
