At the Platform Conference 2001, which is taking place right now, AMD announced that they were currently working with over a hundred of their partners on introducing their new LDT (Lightning Data Transport) technology. This technology is now officially called "HyperTransport". Such monsters of the computer industry as Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), Cisco Systems, NVIDIA and Sun Microsystems have already announced that they will support this innovation in their upcoming products. Now doubt, many others will join them in the nearest future.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much info on the new technology in the official press-release: a peak data transfer rate of 6.4GB per second possible... intended for high-speed "point-to-point" connection of the system components... can be used not only in PCs but also in other devices (e.g., communicational)... will allow designing scalable multi-processor systems, etc. In fact, all this info has been already announced some time ago.
