As we have expected today VIA has officially announced its new PCI-IEEE1394 bridge: VIA Fire II VT6306. When used in mainboards this bridge will allow implementing IEEE1394 interface with the bandwidth of 100, 200 or 400Mbit/sec, which is used in the audio and video equipment as well as in some data storage systems.
Also VIA is planning to launch a similar PCI-USB 2.0 Bridge: VT1221. So, this Taiwanese chipset manufacturer is expanding little by little offering the mainboard makers a great lot of chips with attractive features. For instance, AC’97 codec from VIA, which the company started manufacturing last year are now successfully used in numerous products. Well, it is definitely much easier for the mainboard manufacturer to order all the necessary components from one company, therefore, VIA Fire II VT6306 and VT1221 will undoubtedly be a success.
