Although Infineon`s fabs continue to make their products despite of unprecedented floods in Europe, there are some problems with shipping of the actual devices from Dresden. As is written here, there is a serious break-down in transportation in the area, as a result, clients afraid they will not be able to get the purchased chips from the foundry on time.
The potential delays with the shipments from Dresden caused certain system integrators as well as memory module-makers to ask Asia-based Infineon brokers to ship them the goods from this memory-maker. As a result of increasing number of orders received by memory-suppliers in Asia, according to DRAMeXhchange, DDR SDRAM PC2100 (DDR266) and PC2700 (DDR333) spot prices were up from 0.28% to 1.50% today depending on a type of an actual product.<%BANNER[article]%>
In order not to provoke panic, I should add that Infineon has a number of memory-manufacturing facilities in the USA, Asia and Portugal, so, there is no need to worry about a significant memory pricing rise.
I wonder if AMD also has any problems with shipping. Although their representatives told they have no such problems, current situation around Infineon makes me doubt about this statement`s conformity to the real conditions.
