At the current Platform Conference taking place in San Jose, the first AMD-760MP based mainboard was shown. AMD-760MP is the first chipset for Athlon CPUs supporting SMP configurations. it includes AMD762 North Bridge and AMD-766 South Bridge already used in AMD-760 chipset. This mainboard was provided by TYAN.
You may take a look at this piece here.
To tell, the truth this mainboard looks really impressive. Besides 2 Sockets A, 4 DIMM slots and an AGP slot, the mainboard features 5 64bit PCI slots as well as an integrated Ultra160 SCSI controller.
Unfortunately, AMD doesn’t disclose the due date of its AMD-760MP chipset, however, judging by the AMD roadmap, it should be launched together with the desktop Palomino CPUs. So, it means that we can expect it to happen in Q2 2001.
Also according to some sources, Iwill and Gigabyte are now working on AMD-760MP based mainboards.
