According to The Register, Toshiba started sampling new hard disk drive designed in 2.5-inch form-factor. There are two models available currently: one built with a single 15GB platter and the other one with two 15GB platters (26.7Gb per sq. inch density). Both HDDs feature the average seek time of 13msec and support ATA/100 storage interface transferring 100MB per second. They can also withstand operating shock of 175g and non-operating shock of up to 800g. The drives size makes 100x70x9.5mm, and they weigh <100g. Toshiba targets its products in the first place for use in notebooks, as well as non-PC applications such as PDAs, printers, copiers, GPS systems and MP3 players.
The devices should start selling in March.
