As we learned from our reliable sources, a new chipset from Micron aka Scimitar supporting AMD processors should start shipping in March 2001 already. Unfortunately, there are not so many details available now. As we know, this chipset will feature 8MB embedded memory playing the role of an L3 cache. Besides, the chipset won’t have an integrated graphics core. No doubt, Micron would be glad to introduce a similar solution for Intel platform as well, though they will need to get a license first.
Speaking about Crush 11 and Crush 12 NVIDIA chipsets for Socket A, which support DDR and SDR memory, we should mention that initially NVIDIA wasn’t planning to start shipping the samples of this chipset until this quarter. Some mainboard manufacturers have already begun testing the first engineering samples.
