New Flash Memory for Cell Phones from AMD

Besides the CPU business, AMD, which is also dealing with the Flash memory production announced recently the availability of the new 64Mbit flash memory devices aka Am29BDS640G, which are targeted for palms and High-End cell phones. The new devices boast not only high speed, but also low power consumption, including 95% power consumption drop in standby mode.

The devices are supplies in multi-chip package consisting of 8 or 16Mbit 1.8V SRAM chips.<%BANNER[article]%>

The new Flash memory devices are supposed to occupy a worthy spot in 2.5G and 3G sell phones. Am29BDS640G supports 54MHz processors used in contemporary cell phones and providing 70ns access time in case of random reads and 13.5ns in case of synchronous access.

New Flash memory devices are produced on Fab25 in Austin with 0.17micron manufacturing technology and are packed into 80-pin Fine Pitch Ball Grid Array (FBGA) package. Am29BDS640G is offered for order for $10.75.
