Well, Samsung will no longer be the only company manufacturing and promoting actively the new DDR400 memory. Very soon one more large company is going to join Samsung. I am talking about Winbond, which expressed its vital desire to start manufacturing 400MHz DDR memory last week. Also Winbond announced that they are going to introduce 0.13micron manufacturing technology in all their fabs by the end of Q3 2002.
At present Winbond manufactures DDR333 memory and partners with Infineon Technologies AG. According to their agreement, a certain part of the chips later on manufactured by Winbond with 0.11micron technology should come out under Infineon’s brand name. However, the company is not going to give up the production of its own goods. The intention to tackle DDR400 is just another proof of the point.
