ABIT recently announced one more MAX mainboard aka IT7-MAX2. Just like the predecessor, IT7, this mainboard is intended for Socket478 Pentium 4 processors with 400MHz/533MHz bus. However, it is based on a newer chipset from Intel, i845E. The major peculiarity of this mainboard is the fact that it doesn’t allow connecting any legacy devices to it (no PS/2, parallel and serial ports). However, the mainboard is equipped with a lot of additional integrated controllers. Namely ABIT IT7-MAX2 features integrated onboard 2 SerialATA-150 ports, ATA/133 RAID controller, features 10 (!) USB 2.0 ports and 3 IEEE1394 ports, supports 10/100Mbit Ethernet. Besides that, the mainboard has a 6-channel AC’97 codec supporting optical S/PDIF.

The mainboard may go with an optional Media XP panel, which should be installed into the 5-incg bay of the PC case and featuring a Smart-card reader, audio ports, USB and IEEE1394 connectors.<%BANNER[article]%>

Speaking about the regular features of ABIT IT7-MAX2, we should point out 3 DDR DIMM slots supporting PC1600/PC2100 DDR SDRAM, an AGP 4x slot and 4 PCI slots. The mainboard also supports ABIT’s brand SoftMenu 3 technology, which implies that it has all the necessary features for the proper CPU overclocking.
