AMD Reduced CPU Prices

Last Friday AMD carried out a massive reduction of the official prices of their Athlon XP, Athlon MP, Duron, Mobile Athlon MP, Mobile Duron processors. This price reduction is most likely to be connected with the smooth migration of the production to 0.13micron technology, which allows reducing the production costs due to the smaller die sizes. At the same time, AMD has to maintain parity with Intel, which is going to reduce the price quite a lot in the end of summer-beginning of autumn. Besides they are also going to increase the tope core clocks by then.

To be more exact the new prices by AMD look as follows:

• The price of Athlon XP 2200+ dropped by 5% and now equals $230;
• The price of Athlon XP 2100+ dropped by 20% and now equals $180;
• The price of Athlon XP 2000+ got 15% lower and the CPU is selling now for $163;
• Athlon XP 1900+ got 15% cheaper and sells for $150;
• Athlon XP 1800+ costs $142, i.e. the price reduction equals 11%;
• Athlon XP 1700 got 8% cheaper and sells now for $130.
