Do you think that since STMicroelectronics gave up the development of KYRO/KYRO II families (see this news story), these PowerVR technologies will sink into oblivion? It is quite possible, to tell the truth, however, things may turn out completely different, because some well-known company might be pretty interested in this technology. And this company is... Intel!
Yes! Imagination Technologies, which owns PowerVR Technologies division reported that Intel licensed PowerVR MBX graphics core ‘for its integral microchips”. Since this core is intended for integrated chipsets, and the contemporary integrated graphics from Intel cannot boast any remarkable performance so far, we can guess pretty easily which chipsets will acquire a new integrated graphics solution. And Intel has always been pretty successful everywhere, so no doubt this move will pay back.<%BANNER[article]%>
By the way, it is also worth recalling that some time ago (see this news story), VIA also expressed some interest in purchasing KYRO and KYRO II from STMicroelectronics. However, it seems to have been only pure interest...
