July 17: Revolution by ATI

We told you long time ago that ATI was going to launch its new low-cost RV250 solution. However, now we know that they were planning to launch not only their value chip, but also another one belonging to the new chip generation: R300 (8 rendering pipelines with 2 TMUs each).

Also the stir around the official names for these chips seems to be coming to an end. R300 will be called RADEON 9700, and RV250 will be available in two modifications: RADEON 9000 and RADEON 9000 Pro. You can guess easily that the latter two chips will differ from one another by the clock frequencies. RADEON 9000 Pro will boast 300MHz core clock, while RADEON 9000 might also come in two versions: 250MHz and 275MHz. This way ATI’s positioning of the new solutions in the market are no longer weird to us.<%BANNER[article]%>

As you already know, the first RADEON 9000 based graphics card (or RADEON 9000 Pro) has practically been already announced by C.P.Technology Company (see this news story).
