As I read over here, Angstrom Microsystems dealing with the development and production of rack mount servers has recently shipped the world’s first 4-way 1U server based on AMD Athlon MP CPUs. Since all the contemporary chipsets designed for this platform support only 2 processors, the company decided to install two mainboards into a single case, each supporting 2 Athlon MP 2100+.

Of course, this is far not a classical SMP solution, but a small cluster, though it is the world’s fastest Athlon 1U server. The system is called Quad2100, can be easily modified and is positioned as a solution for complex calculations. According to Angstrom, here belong different scientific fields, work with video streams, and complex 3D graphics.<%BANNER[article]%>

Due to relatively small size, you will be able to fit up to 168 Athlon MP CPUs into a standard rack this way. The solution like that appears not very expensive and is positioned as a choice for those, who are looking to create high-quality digital content, for instance, for movie studios.
