One More Board for RIMM 3200 and RIMM 4200

Very soon one more company is most likely to join the mainboard manufacturers producing solutions supporting new 32bit 3200 and 4200 RIMM modules (see this news story). It will be EPoX.

EPoX EP-4T4A mainboard was showcased in Japan at the Rambus Developer Forum, JAPAN 2002, which was held on July 1-3. The board could be seen at the Elpida booth (which is going to continue making Rambus memory in the future, as we know).<%BANNER[article]%>

In fact, I do remember only one more mainboard of the kind: ASUS P4T533 (see this news story). Other mainboard makers are not planning to grant any support to this dying out memory type.

As for the specs of the new EP-4T4A, they are pretty standard for EPoX. The board is equipped with an ATA/133 RAID controller from HighPoint and a brand name POST controller (two digital indicators showing error codes during POST). Unfortunately, we don’t know yet what ICH chip is used there: ICH2 or ICH4 (of course, ICH4 would be better, because it implies USB 2.0 support, which will never be undemanded). All the rest is pretty common: ATX form-factor, Socket478 (for PGA478 Pentium 4 and Celeron CPUs), 2 RIMM slots for PC4200/PC3200 RDRAM (up to 2GB), 5 PCI slots, AGP 4x slot, etc.
