The Inquirer’s sources suppose that the upcoming 0.13micron Barton core (which will be manufactured only by UMC) will differ from its predecessor, Thoroughbred, not only by the twice as big L2 cache, but also by some optimizations, which will allow boosting the performance a bit more (see the details on Barton’s rating in this news story). They claim that these optimizations will be inherited from the 64bit Hammer core (I wonder what they actually are? :)
Of course, everything is possible, theoretically. However, I would like to remind you that this site doesn’t always have very detailed info on AMD stuff, unlike Intel products :) So, it may also turn out just another rumor…
