Well, it may turn out that we will not see official DDR333 (PC2700) support in Intel’s chipsets (integrated i845GE and discrete i845PE) until the end of this year, according to this story. Even despite the fact that the company will be ready to ship them in the beginning of autumn already, that is around September. In fact, the mainboard manufacturers asked for this delay, because they are very much concerned about the too short life cycle of the contemporary chipsets with the official support of DDR266 (PC2100), namely i845G and i845E.
From the performance point of view the delay like that doesn’t have any practical meaning for us, because as we know i845G and i845E can beautifully work with DDR333, although this memory type is not listed in the chipset specifications among the supported features. However, there is also another aspect: the delay like that will also postpone the inevitable memory prices growth (see this news story), so it means that the customers will not suffer at all from this delay, but on completely the contrary.
