At present, we witness some problems with the shipments of the new Celeron processors, since they appeared highly demanded, as we read over at Digitimes. Intel decided to solve the shortage problem by introducing a new version of this CPU working at 1.8GHz not so long ago. The next Celeron 1.9GHz will be manufactured with finer 0.13micron technology.
As is known, Intel launched a new Celeron processor together with a new i845GL chipset, although the latter is shipping not that well compared with the i845G for fully-fledged Pentium 4 processors.<%BANNER[article]%>
The company representative said that that Celeron shipments are facing some temporary problems, which will be solved very soon. Now Intel has no problems with the production capacities, especially bearing in mid those 6 fabs, which are about to start working with 0.13micron manufacturing technology. However, the schedule for the new Celeron 1.9GHz CPU will anyway depend on the fact how quickly they move to the new technology.
This way, AMD’s plans concerning the move of their Athlon XP and Barton into the low-cost and mainstream segment seem right in time, especially keeping in mind that Celeron clock speeds are growing up pretty fast. There remains only one question: if the new Celeron 1.9GHz made with 0.13micron technology will have 256KB L2 cache or 128KB L2 cache. This will have direct influence on the performance as you may guess.
