As we learned from the Hong Kong PC Market magazine, its reporters managed to visit the demonstration of the upcoming R300 graphics processor, which is currently under development. The guys claim that they watched the GPU being tested in a pretty popular 3D Mark2001 SE test. Unfortunately, the exact numbers are under NDA, however, the guys state that R300 appeared 15%-20% faster than NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4600. In fact, this is not a very impressive result, however, it might be not that higher because of the poorly optimized drivers. This seems to be true because drivers have never been ATI’s strength. Hopefully, by the time the GPU is actually due, ATI will be able to offer better drivers.
