SiS Launches SiS755 Core Logic for AMD x86-64 Processors

Comdex Fall 2002 exhibitions just began a few hours ago and so did the announcements from loads of vendors, developers and other compapanies involved in personal computer related business. Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS), the third largest chipset maker in the world, today unveiled the SiS755 to support the AMD Hammer processor platform. The SiS755 is compliant with all AMD Hammer processors with HyperTransport interface and supports AGP 8x and MuTIOL 1G technology.

Here are the technical specifications of the novelty:

• Supports AMD x86-64 processors via HyperTransport interconnection with 6.4GB/s;
• SiS755 AGP 8x-controller/Graphics Tunnel, accompanied by SiS964 I/O controller; 6 PCI slots supported;
• 2-channel ATA-133/100/66/33 integrated controller;
• 6 USB 2.0 ports;
• 10/100Mbit/s Ethernet
• Home PNA2.0
• AC’97 6-channel audio solution with SPDIF support.

The SiS755/SiS963 combination utilizes MuTIOL 1G technology to provide a fast and seamless connection between the North and South Bridge. The MuTIOL 1G is a SiS proprietary data bandwidth transfer technology with 1GB/s transfer speed and bi-directional 16-bit data bus at 533MHz operating speed.

SiS denied to comment on the actual products availability. In fact, it seems that everything is ready with the chipsets and every core-logic developer now expects AMD to start producing its x86-64 processors.
