ECS to Sell DeskNotes Without LCD Displays

Despite of the general trend towards notebook computers to substitute desktop PCs, ECS still cannot meet its full-year shipment targets on its DeskNote line of devices. In order to make the mentioned products more popular, Elitegroup Computer will take unprecedented measures next year besides ordinary cost-cutting and product line expansion strategies.

In fact, the company plans to start selling “display-less” DeskNotes systems next year, according to DigiTimes. The spokespersons claim that this will allow customers to purchase either a 15” or 17” display separately. Since the prices on LCD panels constantly fall, Elitegroup Computer Systems wants to keep panel inventory low and will try to convince customers that it makes sense to buy a portative computer separately from the display. Also it sounds pretty strange now because we take the word “DeskNote” as a notebook computer that cannot be transported due to the absence of battery, I believe that those “display-less” DeskNotes will resemble very small personal computers, like currently shipping Dell OptiPlex SX260 or something like that.<%BANNER[article]%>

Of course, the company will also continue to sell its traditional DeskNote computers. ECS will continue to utilise desktop computer components, such as CPUs, graphics cards, HDDs and will even offer some upgrade capabilities.

It worth to be noted that the best-selling DeskNote models so far are the solutions based on VIA C3 and Transmeta Crusoe microprocessors, the Taiwanese news-site added. It is estimated that ECS will ship approximately 400 thousands of its notebook-like PCs this year in total. Initially the company planned to sell about 1 million units.
