Intel announced the release of the final specifications (version 1.0) of the USB 2.0 EHCI - Enhanced Host Controller Interface. As before, the use of this interface and the compatibility tests can be licensed by the chips makers for free.
The USB 2.0 chips have been manufactured for a long time already (when the first preliminary specifications version 0.95 appeared, actually), so there are no new things added to the specs list. The major issue has been determined from the very beginning: full backward compatibility of USB 1.1 and USB 2.0. The thing is that Intel is about to release its new ICH4 chip very soon, which should support USB 2.0 interface, so the time for calling the specs "final" has come.<%BANNER[article]%>
