Well, it’s really useful to feel when is the right time to leave :) If ALi hadn’t been smart enough last year, they could have sunk in losses today. Of course, I am talking about the moving of their focus from the desktop chipsets market into the mobile and especially DVD chipsets market.
Not so long ago (see this news story) we compared the results of VIA and SiS and pointed out the recent success of the latter. Now it’s high time we shared some info of the kind on ALi Company, as to Digitimes:<%BANNER[article]%>
| Q1 2002 Revenues (mln Taiwanese dollars) | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Company | March 2002 | Compared with February 2002 | Q1 2002 | Compared with Q1 2001 |
| VIA | 2322 | 0.8% | 7345 | -29.1% |
| SiS | 1286 | 16.7% | 3610 | 50% |
| ALi | 578 | 38% | 1467 | 64.4% |
Note that the company’s revenues have grown by almost 2/3 this year compared with last year! Moreover, they claim that this revenue growth is in the first place connected with the excellent sales of its DVD chips. No wonder that VIA company is going to move in the same direction, although they are not planning to give up the desktop chipsets really.
