AMD: on the Coming Price Reduction

As is known, on April 14 Intel will reduce the processor prices (see this news story for more details) and at the same time AMD is expected to carry out something of the kind. The Inquirer shared some info about the upcoming prices on AMD CPUs after April 14, which will be valid for distributors in North America:

CPUOEM PriceBoxed Price
Duron 1000MHzEOL (End Of Life)EOL
Duron 1100MHz$66$72
Duron 1200MHz$72$75
Duron 1300MHz-$82
Athlon XP 1700+$125$122
Athlon XP 1800+$152.5$130
Athlon XP 1900+$210$158
Athlon XP 2000+$254$216
Athlon XP 2100+$295$261

Once again I would like to point out that the distributor prices are almost always higher than the official ones for 1,000-unit quantities (the latter will also be reduced however, the numbers there will be different). I believe that this way the company tries to save the nerves of its shareholders, this explanation seems to be the best I can find.

Also please take note that boxed Athlon XP processors cost cheaper (some of them cost much cheaper) than their OEM brothers. This is explained by the fact that AMD started a special promotion-campaign for its beautiful boxes. Intel’s laurels seem to give AMD no rest (see this news story) :)
