In our news we have already touched upon the popularity of Intel Pentium 4 processors among the notebook makers and upon the non-popularity of Pentium 4-M processors (see this news story). Before, Intel would have hardly paid any attention to that. But times have already changed :) that is why Intel’s marketing policy also changes more and more noticeably. Last year the company simply shocked everyone by the tremendous price drops, and this year decided to surprise us again. According to pretty credible rumors from Taiwan, Intel decided to recognize the existing tendency of desktop Pentium 4 processors used in notebooks and to grant complete technical support in this respect. As I can remember, there hasn’t ever been such a huge deviation from the division into market segments by Intel.
However, after March 26 Pentium 4-M processors should become much more attractive for notebooks makers (I am talking about a considerable price drop), so Intel will not be stepping too far away from its traditional marketing policy.
