It seems that Samsung is determined to occupy the leading position on the high-performance DDR chip market. A short while ago Samsung announced the launch of graphics DDR memory chips to work at 400MHz (800MHz DDR). And at the upcoming CeBIT these guys will demonstrate a working DDR400 memory module.
DDR400 modules from Samsung will have regular DDR I architecture, so they’ll be able to work on overclocked systems intended for DDR333 and DDR266. Apparently, at CeBIT DDR400 module will work in such a system. SIS and VIA are already up in arms to produce chipsets with DDR400 support. These will be VIA KT400 for Athlon based systems and SIS 648 for Pentium 4 processors. <%BANNER[article]%>
Most memory manufacturers do not share Samsung’s optimism and do not plan to release DDR400 modules before DDR II standard is officially announced. But as chipsets for DDR I with 400MHz memory bus will arrive in the nearest future, there is a need for DDR400 modules complying with DDR I standard. Therefore, it’s good news for both chipset developers and users that Samsung is going to produce such modules.
