Celeron: Tualatin->Willamette->Northwood

And one more news story about Intel. This time, it is about Celeron family. Actually, Intel’s further action in respect to these processors is on the whole quite understandable without any additional explanations. The thing that is of real interest here is the schedule of the Celeron moving to a new core from the older one.

• Celeron on the current 0.13micron Tualatin core will last till the end of the year, and after that Intel’s low-cost processor family should acquire 0.18micron Willamette-128 core.
• Celeron on Willamette-128 core, which is due in Q2 2002 (see this news story) will live for quite a long time. Approximately, it should last till autumn 2003, and after that the whole family will move to Northwood core. L2 cache of Celeron (Northwood) processor is still unknown, however, following Intel’s logic I suppose that it will make 256KB (which is a half of 0.13micron Pentium 4 cache).
• The approximate due date for "Northwood-256" in Celeron CPUs is early 2003. The initial clock frequencies are also not announced.
