Samsung Electronics introduced a pair of high capacity hard disk drives with advanced noise reduction features, including the company’s proprietary technologies called NoiseGuard and SilentSeek.

The two 160GB models, the SpinPoint V80 (7200rpm) and P80 (5400rpm), are not only big and fast, but also quiet HDDs thanks to 80GB platters. The new drives feature Samsung Electronics’ proprietary acoustic noise control technologies NoiseGuard and SilentSeek along with a fluid dynamic bearing mechanism for minimal operation noise.

SilentSeek is designed to minimize the mechanical excitation generated by any resonance. To accomplish this, the technology features a new seek trajectory pattern, preventing excitation by high frequency harmonics while providing minimal positioning and head settling times. NoiseGuard is a multi-faceted noise reduction measure that includes noise dampers and re-designed spindle motors.

Pricing and availability of the new HDDs is unknown.
