StorageLaCie Launches 1.6TB Storage Option.World's Largest HDD Enters the SceneCategory: Storage by Anton Shilov [ 07/12/2004 | 11:53 AM ]
LaCie has once again risen the bar for ultra-large storage solutions by announcing its Bigger Disk Extreme offering 1.60TB of storage. The firm believes that such option is required now and will deliver the product this summer.
LaCie’s Bigger Disk and Bigger Disk Extreme storage solutions are based on a number of HDDs with 7200rpm motors, 10ms seek time and 8MB cache buffers, delivering unbelievable 1TB or 1.6TB of storage space in total. For performance maximization purposes the Bigger Disk Extreme features RAID 0 capability. The external hard disk drives come in stylish and compact 5.25” form-factor case with FireWire 400, FireWire 800, USB 2.0 (Bigger Disk only), iLink/DV (Bigger Disk Extreme) and power connectors. The LaCie Bigger Disk and Bigger Disk Extreme feature an on/off button, but also offer a unique automatic startup, shutdown and hibernation option to reduce excess noise and save energy The Bigger Disk-series is primarily designed as a cost-effective solution for digital video or other kinds of media storage. The solution may surely be used as a very big storage for a small workgroup. A peculiarity that restricts LaCie Bigger Disk from being deployed in mission-critical applications is the absence of RAID 1 function, something that is crucially required by enterprises. Offering a 5.25” form factor, the LaCie Bigger Disk simplifies the placement in tight office environments. The multi-purpose d2 design is stackable and can be positioned upright on a removable foot. An optional rackmount kit enables placement in a standard 19” rack. The Bigger Disk Extreme will be available summer 2004 through LaCie authorized resellers, specialist stores and mail order partners, with a suggested retail price of $1199 for the 1TB and $2199 for the 1.6TB drive. Drives ship with FireWire 800 cable (9:9-pin), FireWire 400 cable (6:6-pin) and iLink/DV cable (6:4-pin). Related news
