Patriot Memory, a leading supplier of advanced DRAM- and flash-based components, on Thursday revealed its first Fusion solid-state drives (SSDs) with dynamic random access memory (DRAM) buffer. Adding such buffer to SSDs boosts performance, but not a lot of SSD makers are installing it due to various reasons.

“By the addition of the DRAM cache, the Fusion greatly increases the random and sequential read and write transfer rates. The DRAM acts as a buffer and increases the reliability, and lessens the possibility for ‘bottlenecks’ within the data transfers,” said Meng J. Choo, Patriot’s Flash Product Manager.

Patriot Fusion solid-state drives with 64MB of DRAM cache will be available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities.

The manufacturer did not reveal other performance figures of its Fusion devices, but already available Warp v3 SSDs can boast with up to 240MB/s sequential read and up to 160MB/s sequential write speeds, while Warp v2 offer up to 175MB/s sequential read speed and up to 100MB/s sequential write speed.

Pricing of Fusion products was also not announced.
